My roommate and I were still on a high from attending the Kenny Chesney concert Thursday night. We had so much fun, we decided to buy last minute tickets and go again for the second showing on Friday. Unfortunately, the concert was sold out, so we ended up having to scalp tickets – and of course we were in the nosebleeds. When the show started, we pulled a classic concert move and snuck down to the lower level. We noticed two empty seats next to each other and decided to stand there until someone else claimed them – which luckily, no one ever did.
As I was scanning the crowd, I noticed an extremely attractive guy looking in my direction. We kept staring and smiling at each other throughout the concert, until finally he waved to me. I instantly had butterflies, and I knew I had to meet him. Since I didn’t have a pass to get down to the floor section where his seats were, I pulled out my phone and pointed at it. I then used my hands to sign my phone number to him from across the crowd – and he texted me!
We met up after the concert, and he was even more attractive up close. The chemistry between us was strong, and I knew I wanted to see him again. When R.J. asked me out the following night, I cancelled a date I had with someone else so I could go – and we’ve been inseparable ever since. That Sunday, I invited R.J. to go to church with me, and to my surprise he happily agreed.
After two years of dating, R.J. took me back to Bridgestone Arena, where we had first locked eyes. One of my friends invited me and R.J. on a tour of the arena so I wouldn’t know that R.J. had planned it or be suspicious that something was up. When our tour guide took us out onto the ice, I immediately grabbed R.J.’s hand and led him towards the section where he was sitting the night we met. Little did I know, I was setting myself up perfectly for his proposal.
I was completely shocked and said, “shut up” at least three times before I managed to spit out the word, “Yes!” As he placed the ring on my finger, I could hear cheers and applause, and when I looked over I saw my entire family and all our best friends standing at the entrance. Many of them had traveled hundreds of miles to be there for us.
Sometimes I still can’t believe the crazy way I met my fiancé. Thank you Kenny Chesney, thank you ticket scalper, thank you lower level ticket holders who decided not to go, thank you best friend for agreeing to go back with me to the concert for a second night in a row, and thank you God for putting it all together.
Fun fact: I also got my phone number inscribed inside of R.J.’s wedding band in honor of the way we met.
