“My biggest dream was always to have a husband and children, but from age 25-36 I didn’t meet any man who I wanted to date, let alone be married to for the rest of my life. In 2011, at age 30 (and very single), I moved from England to Cambodia to work with an anti-trafficking nonprofit. The work was so purposeful, but the husband potential was seriously lacking. After 4 years in Cambodia I moved to Redding, a small town in California, to learn more about using The Arts in inner healing and overcoming trauma. I thought there would be more eligible men there, but I still didn’t meet one who caught my eye. I didn’t even get asked on a single date. In 2016 I moved back to Cambodia to continue my work there. Several friends from Redding soon messaged me and said they knew a man named Michael who was about to move to Cambodia to also work with an anti trafficking NGO. Michael and I had both been in Redding for the same 9 months, had mutual friends, but never met. So our first time meeting was in Cambodia, where we became friends . Soon, we both secretly had growing feelings for each other. After 6 months Michael asked me out to breakfast, where we sat and chatted for 3 hours. From that point forward, it was a whirlwind romance. After 3 months dating we visited England, where Michael asked my Dad if he could marry me, of course he said “YES!” 3 months later (just after my 37th birthday), we got married in California, then celebrated with friends and family in Cambodia, and then in England - years of waiting and then 3 weddings . Another 3 months later we found out we were pregnant with our beautiful son, who was born in October 2018. We currently live in Phnom penh Cambodia, where we work as Christian Missionaries with an anti-trafficking NGO, helping men, women and children who have been trafficked or sexually abused, or are at high risk of being sold into sex-slavery. I am SO glad I continued to follow my adventurous dreams while I waited to meet my husband. I didn’t settle for someone else along the way. I waited for a man who is part of this adventure, also shares a passion for helping people, empowers my dreams, and raises our Son with the same faith and values.”
