“We first locked eyes from across the room in Mr. Dews’ 8th-grade language arts class. We were put in the same group for a summer reading project on “The Giver”. We had to reenact a scene from the book & were chosen to play the twins. From then started our first insider – “Hi, twin!” “What’s up, twin?” “Did you do the homework, twin?” We chatted for hours on AIM & MSN “working on the project” (yes, all on dial-up), & religiously passed notes in class. After a few months of this, he asked me to be his girlfriend & the rest is history. We graduated middle school together, then high school, & even studied & graduated from the same college together.
Him: “I wanted to propose to Kristy in our middle school classroom because it was where we met, became boyfriend/girlfriend, & had our first kiss. Also because I know our story is relatively rare being that we met so young & stayed together. So when school let out for the summer, I approached the office staff with my idea to propose in the very classroom we met 11 years ago. They erupted with enthusiasm as they had never seen anything like this in all their years working there. My plan was for Kristy to be guided to the classroom where all our family & friends would be waiting. There would be a single desk at the front of the classroom with a note. I timed it so that once she finished reading the note, the film I made her would start playing. Then when I heard my cue, I would come in with roses & pop the question. For months I worked little by little on the film & snuck away while Kristy was at work to test all the tech & decorate the room. The hardest part was having to constantly be on the lookout in case she popped into my room while I was editing the footage. The MVP of this whole proposal was Kristy’s aunt who put on her best acting performance to convince Kristy she needed her help to matriculate a friend’s daughter. On the day of the proposal, I had a hard time hiding a grin as Kristy complained about her aunt insisting she dress up; “It’s literally just middle school registration.” Needless to say, Kristy had no idea & her reaction was priceless. Now we get to have that middle-school-kind-of-love forever.”
