“On October 19, 2015, on the 7:38 train out of north berkeley, I talked myself into some light humiliation and tapped the shoulder of the cute guy i’d been seeing every morning for a month. I said, “I think we have the same BART routine.” (The BART is the local train system in the San Francisco bay area). He took his headphones out and said, “What?”......... great start. But not to be deterred, I tried again. I told him we had the same BART routine - we both stood on the same line for the same door for the same 7:38a train every morning. Upon talking some more, we discovered we both lived in France at one point in our lives and both spoke French. This mutual interest along with a palpable connection, led us to continue chatting each morning for another few months... until train chats became Saturday night pizza dates, drinks after work on the weekdays, and eventually, trips out of town on the weekends. Then a year later: “Would you ever consider moving to St. Louis?” Chris asked me. He had a job opportunity there and wanted to pursue it. I had been living in the Bay Area for two years at that point and didn’t really love my job. I realized San Francisco only started to feel like home because Chris was there. So I agreed to take the plunge and move to St. Louis with him. We sure put ourselves through a pressure cooker for relationship growth - but through the many ups and downs of this long, strange trip we have come out as a solid team. One month ago, we got married and had our wedding ceremony in our favorite place on earth - Paris. Riding the metro together was a particularly sentimental highlight. Four years later, I never could have imagined I would marry the “BART guy,” but here we are and I wouldn’t have it any other way.”
